Stacey M. (Clausing) Wiseman

Stacey (Clausing) Wiseman, a native of St. Marys, Ohio, is a member of the St. Marys Memorial High School Class of 2003. In high school, Stacey was a four-sport athlete. She lettered three times in volleyball and was named All – Western Buckeye League First Team and All – District her junior and senior seasons. Stacey lettered twice in basketball and once in swimming.

Stacey Clausing was a powerhouse all-around athlete. This four-time track letter winner is arguably the best track athlete ever to graduate from Memorial High School. She won dozens of track events throughout her four years of high school, dominating the 100m, 200m, and 400m; and setting five Memorial High School records in 2002 that she still holds in 2023: 100m (12.22), 200m (24.7), 400m (55.03), 4x400m relay (49.79), 4 x1600m relay (3:59.84).

Stacey also set twelve Western Buckeye League track event records, a feat that has not been surpassed in the twenty years since she graduated. As of 2023, Clausing still holds the Western Buckeye League records in the 100m (12.22), 200m (24.95), and 400m (56.03).

As a sophomore in 2001, Stacey qualified for State in the 400m, placing 5th, and in the 200m, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay. In 2002, as a junior, Stacey captured multiple Western Buckeye League titles in Long Jump, 100m, 200m, and 400m. She and teammates, Marie Doenges, Krissy Haines, Alicia Sanford, and Hannah Brautigam (team alternate) advanced to State in the 4 x 400m relay where they won the event in stunning fashion. Clausing was handed the baton on the final lap well behind the teams from Newark Licking Valley and Milan Edison, but she managed to not only close the gap but pull ahead to earn the first state track title in Roughrider history with a time of 4:00:09. Stacey also placed 2nd that year at State in the 200m (25.43) and 400m (56.31). She broke the 400m (55.03) state record at the previous meet. The St. Marys Girls Track Team finished 5th out of 77 teams at the State Meet in 2002.

In 2003, Stacey again won Western Buckeye League titles in the 100m, 200m, and 400m – sweeping all three categories for the second year in a row. She captured the State title in the 400m with a time of 57.51 to become the first individual state champion in Memorial High School Track history. She placed 5th in the 200m (25.58) and 4th in the 4x400m relay (4:00:48) to end her stellar high school track career.

Stacey attended Indiana University, where she was also a four-year letter winner in Track. She won two Big Ten Championships – one in the 200m in 2005, running a personal best of 23.51, and another in the 4x400m relay. Stacey won two Big Ten Runner-Ups in the 400m and 4x100m relay and qualified for the N.C.A.A. Mideast Regionals all four years of college. She also qualified for the N.C.A.A. Championships in the 400M, the U.S.A. Championships three times, and is the 4th All-Time Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track Champion in Hoosier history in the 200m and 400m. She was named All-Big 10 First Team in 2004 and 2005, and received All-Big 10 Weekly Honors and Academic All-Big 10 three years in a row. In 2007, she was chosen to receive the Big Ten Medal of Honor, which is awarded to a senior athlete who has “attained the greatest proficiency in athletics and scholastic work.”

Clausing graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Health Science, a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology, and served as a Dietetic Intern at The Ohio State University. She has been employed as a Clinical Dietician at Indiana University Health.

For her hard work, talent, drive, and determination, and for her outstanding abilities and achievements in Track at St. Marys Memorial High School and Indiana University, the St. Marys Memorial High School Alumni Foundation inducts Stacey (Clausing) Wiseman into the St. Marys Memorial High School Alumni Foundation’s Hall of Fame for Athletic Achievement.
